Highwood Bocce Club Members,

The Board has called for a special membership meeting on Sunday, October 1 at 3:30 PM.

The Board will present a proposal on revising the term length of some of our officer and trustee positions in order to create staggered terms for the board.

The main objective of this proposal is to increase board continuity from election to election. With the current process (as defined in the bylaws), all board members are elected at once and have a term of 2 years. Depending on the number of returning board members, which can be zero, this creates a risk of having a board that is not familiar with how to run the Club and the reasons for some of the previously established policies and guidelines. Historically, we have seen issues with this. Staggered terms (not having all board members elected at the same time) would mitigate this risk, and enable the new board to be effective more quickly. There are of course cons to this proposal as well, including potential negatives to having a board that changes membership more frequently and a need for more frequent elections. Also, there is the ever present reason of "Why change, it's worked fine the way it is in the past." That is of course a debatable statement.

The Board would like to hold a vote on this proposal at this special meeting on Sunday October 1. All members are encouraged to attend, provide input, and vote on this proposal. It represents a significant change to how we elect our club leadership and run our club, and as such we'd like as many members input and participation as possible.
